MSYG Connect

The Middle School Youth Group offers middle school-aged youth (grades 6-8) an atmosphere where faith and fun meet! The pre-teen years before high school are an important time where faith and friendship play an integral role in the lives of our youth. In this 4th level of the SJE "Continuum of Care", MSYG provides ample opportunity for the youth of our parish to interact in a safe, faith-filled environment.

Goal

To strive to bring the youth of St. John the Evangelist Parish into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ through increased participation in the Youth Ministry Program and to help create a strong sense of Catholic self and love of Jesus to help them make the right choices in daily life.

Objectives

1. Prayer & Worship - Provide opportunities for middle school students to actively participate in the Mass and in other worship services two times a semester. Help students develop an active prayer life by offering various prayer experiences.
2. Service - Provide a variety of group service activities to illustrate the principle of faith in action.
3. Catholic Identity - Provide opportunities to experience the history of the Church and Her traditions by visiting cathedrals, shrines, and monasteries. Provide opportunities for youth to gather with large groups of Catholic middle school students at rallies and other Church events.
4. Community - Provide social activities that foster a sense of community while helping the students develop a supportive group of Catholic peers.

How to Get Involved

MSYG Connect meets twice a month: on a Friday or Saturday for a social event (Sox Game, Hayride, Movie Night, Bowling, etc.) and generally on the 1st Sunday of the month for Praise & Worship with Teens For Christ and activities to follow in the Panel Room.

We are always looking for Virtus-trained adults to volunteer as well.
