Soup Kitchen Service Project

St. Victor's Community Meal

The St. Victor's Community Meal is a soup kitchen sponsored by The Archdiocese of Chicago and has been serving a 3:00pm meal every Sunday for nearly 25 years. Never has a Sunday been missed! Come be part of God's love and serve others!

Opportunities to Get Involved

All 6th, 7th and 8th grade students of SJE and are welcome to volunteer. We are always looking for Virtus-trained adults to volunteer as well.

  • Our 6th grade students will meet in the school kitchen from 11:15 am until 1:00 pm on scheduled Sunday mornings to prepare a meal for 75 people. Our SJE student cooks have learned about sanitation, food preparation, working with sharp knives, different kinds of foods, clean-up and most importantly, TEAM WORK!
  • Our 7th and 8th grade students meet at 1:30 pm to head out to St. Victor's in Calumet City, Illinois where they help set tables, roll silverware, cut & display desserts, make coffee, set up a beverage area, and serve the meal prepared by our 6th grade students. These SJE students greet and thank our guests for coming to lunch. They've learned the importance of putting others first and sharing God's love with those in need. The 7th & 8th graders return to the school parking lot at approximately 4:30 pm.
How to Volunteer

If you'd like your son or daughter to volunteers, please contact Wen Dee Anderson to pre-register students wishing to participate. The number of students is limited making sure each one has a job and is kept busy - there's very little standing around. Also, drivers are arranged so there's no room for last minute show-ups. Permission forms are available in the parish office on a monthly basis.

SJE participates by serving 7 meals per year, one Sunday per month, September thru April. SJE will has completed it's 6th year helping with this soup kitchen!!!
